The initial processing and setup fees above are in fact a 'discount', as customers must purchase both the initial collection and 20 years of storage in advance. There are no year-by-year plans available.
Established in 2004, MAZE Labs isn't one of the most established cord blood banks in the US, but it is most likely the cheapest, assuming at least you were planning on prepaying for what would generally be considered a 'full' storage term. The cost for banking with MAZE is a flat rate of $2010, which includes 20 years of storage. (According to their Web site, this is the equivalent of a $599 setup and $70.50 annual storage fee - but as there are no shorter storage terms available, you can theoretically break it down however you'd like).
MAZE Labs states it's low prices are due to their (lack of) marketing keeping their overhead costs down, but we suspect the fixed storage terms play into the low-cost strategy as well.
Despite the low costs, MAZE maintains AABB accreditation, has blood processed at the New York Blood Center, and maintains quality customer service practices with its clients.
