Clients can pay for 10 years of storage in advance for $1000, a savings of $150 off regular annual payments.
Established in 2005, CReATe Cord Blood Bank is an independent company located in downtown Toronto founded by Dr. Clifford Librach, the Director of Sunnybrook Fertility Centre.
In addition to traditional cord blood banking, CReATe offers Peristem™ service - a process in which a different type of stem cell (mesenchymal stem cells) found in the tissues around umbilical cord are extracted and stored as well. While there is not as much history surrounding these alternative sources of stem cell, research has been very encouraging thus far, and a number of other banks have being offering similar services based on it's potential more than practice.
Cord banking services are offered independently of the Peristem™ service, or they can be combined together for an initial cost of $1570 and $210 annually for storage of both units (10 year prepaid discount is available for combined service as well).
CReATe also offers a medical need program for which they will waive the processing fees for cord blood required immediately (within six months) for medical use (as recommended by a certified physician).
Note that initial processing and storage fees do not include shipping costs back to the lab, to be paid by client.
