Cells for Life is one of the first cord blood banks to open in Canada (established in 1997), with offices in Toronto - Ontario, Markham - Ontario, Calgary - Alberta and Montreal - Quebec. Regardless of which province collection takes place, Cord blood is processed and stored at Toronto General Hospital.
Despite being located in Canada, Cells for Life holds an AABB accreditation (American Association of Blood Banks) for good measure, and has stored more than 20,000 cord blood units to date. Four samples have been released to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and successfully engrafted.
In addition to it's family cord banking services, Cells for Life founded the Victoria Angel Registry of Hope Public Cord Blood Bank (VAR) to accept donated cord blood samples from Canadian parents. This is one of only a few public cord banking facilities operating in Canada.
The registration fee and collection kit total $120 ($25 and $95 respectively), and are to be paid upon enrollment. Processing and first years storage total $900, which can be paid in full or in three monthly installments.
